Quinn
In my personal life I am a great lover of music and the arts, as I come from a theater background. I am an animal lover who has two dogs, and I love running them all over the city of Chicago. I am very well versed with men’s issues, and issues surrounding masculinity. I am a strong advocate of LGBTQ+ rights, and much of my schoolwork had focused on those issues, particularly Transgender issues both in and out of the therapy space. I am an ardent feminist, I am sex-worker positive, I am a believer that systemic racism and individual racism are real problems in need of solving, and I believe in the fundamental dignity of all people.
I am a therapist in training currently in my final year of the Masters program at Northwestern University’s Family Institute. I love working with client’s who wish to explore their inner most thoughts, desires, fears, and doubts. I particularly specialize in issues of identity, connection, and relationships. I believe the core of mental anguish often comes from people not having a sense of identity, and struggling to build bonds with family, friends, and the world around us. The world can be a very hard place, and I believe that working on our identities and our relationships can make it a kinder one.
My approach is a blend of Psychodynamic approaches, which center the subconscious, person centered approaches, in which you the client guide the session, and more modern Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in which we explore how thoughts impact actions and feelings. I love working with clients who are willing to challenge themselves, and who are willing to be vulnerable. For my part I will work to build a safe space of trust, support, and safety. I am often told that I am warm, trustworthy, and quite funny in the room, all of which I believe to be therapeutic. Yes we sometimes find ourselves very emotional in the therapy space, but we should also find moments of joy and humor!
